Former US President Donald Trump returned to Washington DC on Saturday evening to celebrate with his family and political friends in preparation for his second inauguration, four years after he left the city amid unrest following the attack by his supporters on the Capitol building in 2021.
Trump celebrated his return to power at his private golf club, Trump National, in Virginia, about 30 miles from the capital. At the ceremony, Trump addressed the audience, where he referred to some political figures such as Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
He also praised Steve Witkoff, his envoy to the Middle East, describing him as a "great negotiator" after he helped reach a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, which went into effect on Sunday.
As Trump spoke, guests gathered below the balcony to participate in a fireworks display and a musical performance by singer Christopher Macchio. According to the European News Network website in Brussels,
Exceptional preparations for the inauguration
Trump returned to Washington after leaving West Palm Beach, Florida, on a C-32 military aircraft, accompanied by his wife Melania and their son Barron, on a flight called "Special Air Mission 47", indicating that he will be the 47th president of the United States.
As his inauguration date approaches, the organizers of the inauguration ceremony were forced to take exceptional measures due to the expected cold weather in the capital. It was decided to move most of the inauguration day events inside the Capitol building, including the presidential and vice presidential swearing-in ceremony, due to the expected significant drop in temperatures.
This is the first time since 1985, when the inauguration ceremony of President Ronald Reagan was moved inside the Capitol, due to severe weather conditions.
Temperatures are expected to drop significantly in most parts of the United States, which has prompted the governors of a number of states to declare a state of emergency, in anticipation of frost and cold. The expected cold weather in Washington, D.C., has prompted the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump to be moved to the rotunda of the U.S. Capitol.
Another winter weather storm is expected to hit parts of the United States in the coming days, including bone-chilling winds in the Northern Plains and unusually cold temperatures, including snow and ice, in the Gulf Coast.
The expected cold weather in Washington, D.C., on Monday has prompted the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump to be moved to the rotunda of the U.S. Capitol.
Most of the United States, from the Rockies to the Northern Plains, will see colder-than-normal temperatures from Sunday through next week, including a forecast wind chill of minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit or colder in the Dakotas and northern Minnesota, said National Weather Service meteorologist Marc Chenard.
