Trump Reiterates Threat to BRICS Group If They Think of Replacing the Dollar

Washington: Agencies

Once again, US President Donald Trump has threatened the BRICS member states with 100% tariffs if they think about launching a new currency.

The Republican leader said on the "Truth Social" website that he would demand a commitment from countries "that appear hostile to America" that they will not create a new currency for the BRICS countries and will not support any other currency instead of the "great" US dollar, otherwise they will face 100% tariffs.

He added that there is no chance that the BRICS group will replace the US dollar in international trade, or anywhere else, and added: "Any country that tries to do that should say hello to tariffs and goodbye to America!" According to what was reported by the European news network in Brussels "Euronews"

Earlier, Russia responded to the 78-year-old president's threats by saying that work on the financial system for the BRICS countries will continue, indicating that any American attempt to force countries to use the dollar will be "counterproductive."
Trump's threats come this time as a president, and he has already fulfilled many of the promises he made during his election campaign, especially since a group of countries, such as Mexico and Canada, are waiting for his final decision on imposing 25% tariffs on them starting from February 1. Recently, the dollar's dominance in the global economy has increased, thanks to the strength of the US economy, the tightening of monetary policy, and the increase in geopolitical risks. A study conducted by the Center for Economic Geosciences of the Atlantic Council last year showed that the US dollar remains the world's main reserve currency, and neither the euro nor the BRICS countries have been able to reduce global dependence on it.
