
940 companies declared bankruptcy in Belgium last month

In January 2025, commercial courts registered 940 bankruptcies. This represents a decrease of 6.2% compared to December 2024 (1,002).
According to what the Belgian statistical office "Statbel" published, a comprehensive report containing the most important developments in the monthly bankruptcy figures.
The number of bankruptcies registered in January 2025 is lower than the same month in 2024 (-0.2%) but higher than the number of bankruptcies in 2023 (+17.6%).
At the regional level, the number of bankruptcies in December 2024 increased only in the Flemish region compared to December 2024 (+0.7%). This number also increased in the Flemish Region and the Walloon Region compared to both January 2024 and January 2023. This is the highest value for January in the Flemish Region since the previous record in 2013 (545 vs. 532), while we have to go back to 2020 to find more bankruptcies in the Walloon Region for this month (255 vs. 228).
