Brussels: Europe and the Arabs
The European Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Suica, will visit Egypt tomorrow, Sunday, March 2. According to a statement issued by the European Commission headquarters in Brussels, this visit comes in the context of a series of high-level consultations conducted by Commissioner Suica to draft the new Charter for the Mediterranean. The Charter - currently being developed in close cooperation with Mediterranean partners and member states - will address common challenges, by strengthening people-to-people relations, economic growth, and enhancing regional security and stability. This visit also underscores the strong relations between the European Union and Egypt and serves as an opportunity to assess the implementation of the comprehensive strategic partnership, signed in March 2024.
Commissioner Suica will meet with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi; Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly; and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Dr. Badr Abdel Aati. The European official will also meet with Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation. She will also sign with the Egyptian government the €90 million project “Food Resilience in Egypt” co-financed by the EU and the European Investment Bank.

During the visit, Commissioner Soica will also address Egypt’s efforts to advance its political and economic reforms, in line with the EU’s overall financial assistance package and the priorities of the comprehensive strategic partnership. In this context, the EU will continue to work with its partners to attract EU investments in Egypt, particularly in the field of clean technology and renewable energy.

A press conference with Commissioner Soica will take place on Sunday at 12:00 noon
