Airline staff strike at Belgian airport after flights diverted from Egyptian airspace to Israel

Brussels: Europe and the Arabs
The Christian unions CNE and ACV Puls have announced a strike by Ryanair employees at Belgium's Charleroi Airport. This specifically concerns flights to conflict zones. The strike is scheduled to begin Monday, but it is unclear how long it will last, according to SudInfo. The strike decision follows the failure of negotiations with the low-cost airline Ryanair to establish a voluntary system for flights to conflict zones. Didier Liebe, permanent secretary of the CNE national union, noted that "all European airlines have such a voluntary system, except for Ryanair, which remains inflexible." He added, "There is no boycott of Israel." It goes without saying. We must understand that some employees do not want to go to conflict zones, and their families are also concerned.
For example, Ryanair operates flights to Amman in Jordan and Tel Aviv in Israel. In the past, planes would fly over Egypt to reach Amman to avoid Israel. Now, to save fuel, pilots are forced to fly over Israel. We all remember what happened to the Malaysia Airlines plane over Ukraine, before that country was considered a war zone, the unionist added. Consequently, unions warned that employees who refuse to operate flights to war zones will be subject to the right to strike starting Monday.
