Brussels: Europe and the Arabs
The statement issued by the leaders of a number of member states and European Union institutions following their notification of the results of the Alaska Summit showed no change in the European position supporting Ukraine in confronting Russian aggression. The bloc even reiterated its unwavering position of continuing to provide support in various forms, based on the premise that a threat to Ukraine's security is a threat to Europe and that the vital security interests of Ukraine and Europe must be guaranteed.
The statement said that US President Donald Trump informed the leaders of the results of the Alaska Summit, which brought him together with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The statement, distributed in Brussels on Saturday, read: "The leaders welcomed President Trump's efforts to stop the killing in Ukraine, end Russia's war of aggression, and achieve a just and lasting peace.
As President Trump said, 'No deal until there's a deal.' As President Trump envisioned, the next step now is to hold further talks, including with President Zelenskyy, whom he will meet soon.
We are also ready to work with President Trump and President Zelenskyy to hold a trilateral summit with European support.
We are clear that Ukraine must obtain On firm security guarantees to effectively defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity. We welcome President Trump's statement that the United States is prepared to provide security guarantees. The coalition of the willing is ready to play an active role. No restrictions should be imposed on the Ukrainian Armed Forces or their cooperation with third countries. Russia cannot veto Ukraine's accession to the European Union and NATO.
It is up to Ukraine to make decisions regarding its territory. International borders must not be changed by force.
Our support for Ukraine will continue. We are determined to do more to preserve Ukraine's strength in order to end the fighting and achieve a just and lasting peace.
As long as the killing continues in Ukraine, we stand ready to maintain pressure on Russia. We will continue to intensify sanctions and broader economic measures to squeeze Russia's war economy until a just and lasting peace is achieved.
Ukraine can count on our unwavering solidarity in our pursuit of a peace that safeguards the vital security interests of Ukraine and Europe.
