In the context of intensifying communication with European Parliament members from different political currents, Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Kingdom of Belgium and accredited to the European Union, met with the Vice-President of the Socialists and Democrats Group, a member of the Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, "Mohamed Shahim", and the deputy Tom Vandendriss is a member of the Parliament's Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs Committee.
During the meetings, it was emphasized the importance of continuing to strengthen parliamentary cooperation between the two sides, and enhancing the pace of mutual official visits to learn about the progress made in Egypt.
The Egyptian ambassador also dealt with the objective and organizational preparations for Egypt’s hosting of the 27th session of the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) next November in Sharm El-Sheikh, and Egypt’s interest in issues of climate change and the environment, support for the broad and effective participation of relevant civil society organizations, and keenness to move From the stage of launching pledges to the stage of implementing specific projects.
The great opportunities for cooperation between Egypt and the European Union in the field of energy were also discussed, taking into account Egypt's position as a regional center for the production, distribution and circulation of energy in the region, as well as the prospects for future cooperation in the fields of clean energy, especially green hydrogen, electricity, wind and solar energy, in addition to gas. liquefied.
The vital regional role played by Egypt in achieving security and stability in the Middle East and Africa, and the successes achieved by Egypt in the field of combating terrorism, preventing illegal immigration and hosting millions of refugees on its lands, were commended.
