The Turkish news agency "Anadolu", quoting the Minister of the Interior, said that the security forces arrested the person who left the bomb that caused the Istanbul explosion.
This came after Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu on Monday accused the Kurdistan Workers' Party of responsibility for an attack that killed at least six people in Istanbul on Sunday.
"According to our conclusions, the terrorist organization of the Kurdistan Workers' Party is responsible" for the attack, Soylu said, announcing the arrest of a person accused of placing a bomb on Istiklal Street.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Vice President Fuat Aktay had previously said that a "woman" was responsible for the attack, which the Interior Minister did not talk about on Monday.
The attack targeted the beating heart of Istanbul, the main city and the economic capital of Turkey, killing at least six people on the busy commercial Istiklal Street.
The explosion, which occurred at about 16:20 (1320 GMT), also killed 81 people, two of them were seriously injured, according to the latest toll, at a time when the crowd of passers-by was dense in the street frequented by residents and tourists.
On Sunday evening, Turkish Vice President Fuat Aktay accused a "woman" of "exploding a bomb", without specifying whether she was among the dead.
Later, Minister of Justice Bekir Bozdag spoke of a "bag" that was placed on a seat, and said, "A woman sat on a chair for forty to 45 minutes, and then an explosion occurred. All data about this woman are currently being studied."
In a statement broadcast live on television, Erdogan denounced a "despicable attack". He stressed that "the initial information indicates a terrorist attack," noting that "a woman may be involved," without giving further details.
Immediately after the explosion, rumors of a suicide attack spread, without any confirmation or evidence.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
Erdogan promised "to reveal the identity of the perpetrators of this despicable attack. Let our people be sure that we will punish the perpetrators."
Erdogan had previously faced a series of attacks that sparked panic in the country between 2015 and 2016, which killed about 500 people and wounded more than 2,000, some of which were adopted by the "Daghesh" organization.
