A new execution in Iran sparks outrage in European and other capitals. Noureddine Al-Amrani from the Netherlands wrote, "Prime Minister of the British government, Raishi Sunak, expressed his strong shock at the execution of the political activist Ali Reza Akbari, a Briton of Iranian origin, who was hanged by the regime." The Iranian who was accused of spying for British intelligence and other charges.
As a reminder, Ali Reza Akbari had previously worked in sensitive positions in the Iranian Ministry of Defense for 8 years, and he was arrested in 2019 to be put behind bars and executed by hanging.
Sunak expressed in a tweet to him on Twitter that he received a strong shock as soon as he heard the tragic news, considering what the security services of the Iranian regime did as a "criminal and cowardly act, a barbaric act that does not respect human rights."
It is noteworthy that a few days ago the European Union said that it was stunned by the execution of Muhammad Mehdi Karami and Sayed Muhammad Hosseini, who were arrested and sentenced to death in connection with the ongoing protests in Iran. According to a statement issued in Brussels by Josef Borrell's spokesman for the High Coordinator for Foreign Policies of the European Union, he added, " This is another sign of the Iranian authorities' violent suppression of civil demonstrations.
The statement also stated, "The European Union once again calls on the Iranian authorities to immediately end the strongly condemned practice of imposing and carrying out death sentences against demonstrators. The European Union also calls on the authorities to overturn without delay the recent death sentences already handed down in the context of the ongoing protests, and to provide legal measures." All detainees must ensure that those who are in any form of detention or imprisonment are not subjected to any form of ill-treatment.
