The agricultural area allocated to grain and corn increased by 36.0% in 2022 due to the increase in grain prices due to the war in Ukraine. This is evident from the final results of the agricultural statistics of the Belgian Statbel office. Which indicated that in 2022, there were 35,192 farms in Belgium. This represents a decrease of -2.3% compared to the previous year. The decrease in the number of farms was accompanied by a slight decrease of 0.5% in the area of cultivated land. According to the figures issued by the Statistical Office through a statement of which we received a copy, 41.3% of the Belgian agricultural area consists of grasslands temporary and permanent. In Wallonia, the French-speaking part "the share is greater (46.8%) and in "Dutch-speaking" Flanders, it is 34.8%.
And cereal crops occupied 23.7% of the agricultural area in 2022. This is an increase compared to 2021 as a result of the increase in the area of summer grains (summer wheat and spring barley) and corn grains by +36.0% (or +19251 hectares) as a result of the increase in grain prices after the war in Ukraine.
