Drought is one of the greatest threats to sustainable development, not only in developing countries but, increasingly, in developed countries as well. In fact, it is projected that drought will affect more than three-quarters of the world's population by 2050.
The number and duration of droughts has increased by 29 percent since 2000, compared to the previous two decades (WMO 2021). When more than 2.3 billion people already face water stress, it's a big problem.
The woman is concerned with the health of the land, although she does not have the right to decide in managing it.
Across the world, women face major barriers in securing their land rights, which limits their ability to succeed and thrive.
In many areas, women are subject to discriminatory laws and practices that impede their enjoyment of their rights to privileges and access to services and resources.
Women are often the worst affected when land deteriorates and water becomes scarce.
And stresses the theme of the International Day to Combat Desertification and Drought for this year, entitled ❞Women. her land. ❝ To invest in women's equality in the right to own land and related assets, which is a direct investment in their future and the future of humanity. It is time for women and girls to be at the forefront of global efforts to restore land and resilience in the face of drought.
