
Egypt's ambassador in Brussels meets with the European Union Commissioner for Crisis Management and discusses humanitarian and development support for refugees in Egypt

Ambassador Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty met with Mr. Janiz Lenarczyk, the European Union Commissioner for Crisis Management, where the meeting dealt with all aspects of cooperation between Egypt and the European Union in light of the President's recent meeting in Paris with both the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, and the President of the European Commission. As well as the recent visit of the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union, Joseph Borrell, to Cairo.
The meeting dealt with the issue of the influx of refugees and the role of the European Commission in providing aspects of humanitarian and developmental support for them. Ambassador Abdel-Aty indicated that Egypt hosts 9 million refugees, half of whom are Sudanese, in addition to receiving tens of thousands since the outbreak of the recent crisis in Sudan, and that they receive all forms of assistance. The meeting also reviewed the results of the high-level conference to support the humanitarian response in Sudan and the region, which was held recently in coordination between Egypt, the European Union, the United Nations, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Germany and the African Union, as well as the Brussels 7 conference on supporting the Syrian people and the region, which was held recently and Egypt provided more than 1,500 tons of food.
