New York - Tripoli: Europe and the Arabs
The United Nations Support Mission in Libya stated that it is following with great concern the recent security events and developments in Tripoli and their dire effects on civilians.
In a press release, the Mission reminded all concerned parties of their responsibilities under international law to protect civilians.
The mission expressed concern about the potential impact of these developments on the ongoing efforts to create a conducive security environment for the advancement of the political process, including preparations for national elections.
The mission called for an immediate halt to the escalation and an end to the ongoing armed clashes. "Violence is not an acceptable way to resolve differences," she said.
She stressed the need for all parties to preserve the security gains made in recent years and to address differences through dialogue.
