Brussels - New York: Europe and the Arabs
By supporting Ukraine, the West is waging a “direct fight” against Russia. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in statements on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, which were captured by the European media, specifically in the Belgian capital, Brussels. Newsblad newspaper reported on its website this morning excerpts from Lavrov’s statements, including: “You can call it whatever you want, but they are fighting us directly.” Lavrov said: “We call it a hybrid war, but that does not change the reality,” referring to the financial support that the West provides and arms supplies to Ukraine.
During a long press conference at the United Nations headquarters in New York, the Russian Foreign Minister was asked several questions, among other things, about the United States’ role in the conflict.
“The United States and Europe have always said that they are not waging war against Moscow with their arms supplies to Ukraine, but they want to help Ukraine defend itself,” Brussels media reported. Lavrov condemned the “neo-colonial mentality” adopted by the West in its efforts to The South won over the Ukrainian issue. Lavrov pointed out that a “global majority” had been deceived by the West, which he described as an “empire of lies.”
Earlier this week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appealed to the General Assembly for more support from the international community. He also called for a global peace summit. According to Lavrov, negotiations can be held, but without the condition of a ceasefire. Although he called Zelensky's peace plan "unworkable."
Grain deal 'unrealistic'
Also regarding the grain deal, the Russian Foreign Minister said that the proposals of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres are “unrealistic.” “We don't reject it, but it's not realistic.” The original agreement stipulated that Ukraine could continue to export its agricultural products, while Moscow could also export its food products and fertilizers. But Russia complained several times about the lack of respect for international sanctions on this side and canceled the agreement in the summer. Guterres has tried to revive it, including by raising the possibility of granting Moscow renewed access to the international payment system and frozen assets.
The second cargo ship carrying Ukrainian grain arrives in Istanbul
Meanwhile, data from shipping sites shows that a second ship carrying Ukrainian grain arrived in the Turkish city of Istanbul via the Black Sea on Sunday, despite Russian threats to attack boats entering and leaving Ukraine.
The cargo ship Arwiat, flying the Palau flag, left the port of Tyoromorsk, south of Odessa, on Friday. It is the second ship to follow the sea corridor established by Kiev to bypass the Russian blockade
