An international commitment to continue monitoring nuclear power plants in Ukraine

Vienna - Brussels: Europe and the Arabs
The Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Mariano Grossi, renewed the agency’s commitment to continue monitoring nuclear power plants in Ukraine in the midst of the continuing Russian invasion. According to a publication on the official United Nations website
Mr. Grossi spoke at the opening of the IAEA's General Conference in Vienna yesterday, Monday, noting that 53 missions, including more than 100 IAEA employees, have been deployed as part of the continued presence inside the five nuclear power plants in Ukraine.
Among these five stations is the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, located on the Dnipro River in southern Ukraine.
Mr Grossi said the situation at Zaporozhye station remained "very fragile".

A tribute to the courage of the International Agency's employees
Zaporozhye station is controlled by Russian forces, but manned by Ukrainian staff. It is the largest nuclear power station in Europe, and the International Atomic Energy Agency has been monitoring the situation there since the first days of the conflict.
In his message to the IAEA's General Conference, UN Secretary-General António Guterres praised the "courageous service" of IAEA staff stationed at the station.
He pledged that the United Nations would continue to do “everything in its power” to ensure the safe rotation of experts working at the five nuclear facilities in Ukraine.
