Ambassador Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Egyptian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium and the Duchy of Luxembourg, participated in the “European Green Hydrogen Week” held in Brussels, in a session entitled “A New Vision for Cooperation between the European Union and the Middle East in the Field of Green Hydrogen,” where aspects of cooperation were discussed. The existing relationship between the European Union and the leading countries in the Middle East region in the field of exporting green hydrogen and renewable energy to Europe, and the importance of pumping heavy investments into Middle Eastern countries as it is the most suitable region to benefit from solar and wind energy, and Europe’s need to import at least about 10 million tons of green hydrogen. annually.
Representatives of a large number of European companies working in the fields of production, export and import of green hydrogen participated in the session.
During the session, Dr. Abdel Aty reviewed the major efforts and projects undertaken by Egypt in the fields of clean energy and green transformation, highlighting the achievements achieved by Egypt in transforming into a center for the production, circulation, transmission and export of energy, highlighting Egypt’s capabilities in producing green hydrogen and green ammonia and exporting them to Europe. Producing electricity from clean wind energy sources; In addition to solar energy, led by the GREGY project; As well as opportunities for cooperation in the Suez Canal area and turning it into a green corridor.
Ambassador Abdel Aty also pointed out that the Egyptian government has reached a number of agreements with a number of major European companies to establish factories to produce green hydrogen, including the ongoing dialogue with a Belgian consortium to establish a large factory in Egypt to produce green hydrogen.
The Egyptian Ambassador also noted the measures taken by Egypt to encourage the clean energy production and export sector, most notably the formation of the Supreme Council for Investment headed by the President of the Republic to overcome obstacles to investment in all fields, including the field of green hydrogen, and the formation of the National Council for Green Hydrogen and its Derivatives headed by the Prime Minister to follow up Implementing the national strategy for green hydrogen and providing incentives to companies wishing to invest in the green hydrogen sector, which was appreciated by representatives of European companies specialized in producing and importing green hydrogen.
