Brussels: Europe and the Arabs
The European Union institutions in Brussels announced a financial support program to Tunisia to help improve public financial management and encourage investment, according to what European Union spokesman Luis Bueno wrote in a post on the X website (formerly Twitter) this morning.
According to a European statement, the program, which costs 150 million euros, aims to support the Tunisian government’s efforts to strengthen the economy and, in particular, improve public financial management and the business and investment climate.
This European financial support is part of a Memorandum of Understanding for a Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership (MOU) concluded between the European Union and Tunisia in Tunisia on July 16, 2023, which includes five axes: macroeconomic stability, economy and trade, transition to green energy, rapprochement between peoples, and migration. And mobility.
Within the framework of the first pillar of the MoU on macroeconomic stability, this program will be implemented through budget support. This consists of a direct financial transfer from the European Union to the Tunisian treasury to support the Tunisian government in its efforts to achieve stable and comprehensive economic growth for the benefit of its citizens.
The statement concluded by saying, “The commitment remains on the part of the European Union and Tunisia to work together to simultaneously implement the five pillars of the Memorandum of Understanding and to address common challenges in a spirit of solidarity, mutual respect and equal partnership.”
