The work of the Council of Ministers of Finance and Economy will begin today, Monday, in Brussels, through a meeting of ministers of the euro zone countries, provided that the meetings will expand tomorrow with the addition of the rest of the member states of the European Union.   Highlights macroeconomic and fiscal policy developments in the euro area Ministers will assess macroeconomic and fiscal developments and prospects in the euro area and exchange views on the direction of fiscal policy for 2025.
Ministers are expected to continue their work on a statement on the future of the Capital Markets Union. The aim is to present this statement to leaders at the euro summit in March.
Preparing for the Euro summit in March
President Paschal Donohue will present the main elements of the message that he will address to the Chair of the Euro Summit in his personal capacity, and will present a report on the work accomplished in the Eurogroup since October 2023 and outline plans for the coming months. It is noteworthy that the Euro Summit will be held in Brussels on March 22, 2024.
During the expanded meeting tomorrow, the Council will seek to approve the guidelines for the European Union budget for 2025 and adopt its recommendation regarding disbursement of the 2022 budget.
The Ministers will also discuss the Recovery and Resilience Facility and the economic and financial impact of Russian aggression against Ukraine. The Ministers of Economic and Financial Affairs will hold a discussion with the Ministers of Labor and Social Affairs on social investments and reforms for resilient economies.
