The tensions around the city of El Fasher in Sudan raise the concern of the UN Security Council...and a call to all parties to calm down

The members of the UN Security Council expressed concern about the increasing tensions and military operations around the city of El Fasher in North Darfur, Sudan. According to the daily news bulletin issued by the United Nations, which added, “In a statement issued yesterday, Saturday, the members of the Security Council expressed deep concern about an imminent attack.” By the Rapid Support Forces and allied militias against the city of El Fasher, which is home to hundreds of thousands of people who have fled violence elsewhere.
They called on the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces to end the mobilization of military forces, take steps to calm the situation and comply with their obligations under international humanitarian law.
Council members reiterated their call for an immediate cessation of hostilities, leading to a sustainable ceasefire.
They urged all Member States to refrain from external intervention that seeks to foment conflict and instability, and to instead support efforts to achieve lasting peace.
They reminded all parties to the conflict and Member States to adhere to their obligations to comply with arms embargo measures as set out in paragraphs 7 and 8 of Resolution 1556 of 2004 and reiterated in Resolution 2676 of 2023.
