The number of victims increased during the sudden floods that occurred in Afghanistan, and the United Nations said that it is coordinating with the de facto authorities in the country to provide emergency aid.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, expressed his sadness over the loss of life resulting from floods in Baghlan province, in northeastern Afghanistan.
In a statement issued by the Office of the United Nations Spokesman, the Secretary-General expressed his solidarity with the people of Afghanistan. He offered his condolences to the families of the victims, wishing a speedy recovery for the injured.
He stressed that the United Nations and its partners in Afghanistan are coordinating with the de facto authorities to quickly assess needs and provide emergency assistance.
The death toll from the flash floods that struck Baghlan, Takhar, Badakhshan and Ghor provinces in Afghanistan has risen to more than 330 people, according to the World Food Program office in Afghanistan.
The United Nations agency stated on Saturday that more than 300 people were killed in Baghlan province in northern Afghanistan alone, in addition to the destruction of more than a thousand homes.
It is worth noting that these floods, which come with rains exceeding normal in the spring, struck other provinces in Afghanistan that are highly vulnerable to the effects of climate change, especially in the Ghor province in the west of the country and Badakhshan in the northeast of Afghanistan, causing major financial losses.
