Head of the United Nations Mission in Libya: National reconciliation is necessary and the deadlock must be broken and institutions must be unified

Stephanie Khoury, Acting Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), stressed the need to break the political deadlock in Libya and promote a comprehensive political process. She pointed out that the Libyan people are looking forward to stability, unifying institutions and holding national elections, stressing the need to avoid unilateral measures that hinder the political process, according to the UN daily news bulletin.
During an interview with UN News, she stressed the importance of unifying the government and the army to ensure the stability of the ceasefire. She praised Libya's economic capabilities, pointing to the need for a shared vision between the leadership and the people to achieve a better future.
The UN official also spoke about the challenges facing national reconciliation, which she said is very important for Libyans, calling for a legal framework for transitional justice, with the need to focus on victims.
Ms. Khoury touched on the topic of local elections, stressing that they are an important opportunity for the Libyan people to choose their representatives and prepare for the upcoming national elections. She also praised the role of Libyan women in political and economic life, pointing to the challenges they face, such as electronic violence. In her message to the youth, she called on them to continue to hold on to hope and participate in the political and economic process, stressing their vital role in pressuring political parties to achieve a bright future for Libya.
