US Elections: High turnout for early voting..and DC authorities prepare the National Guard to deal with potential violence

Washington: Agencies
Tracking data from the University of Florida's Elections Lab reported early Saturday that more than 70 million people have cast their ballots early in the election through early voting methods.
ABC NEWS quoted the lab's data as saying that more than 70 million American voters have cast their ballots since early voting began, with 37 million, 458 thousand, and 617 voting in person, while 32 million, 594 thousand, and 669 voting by mail.
The governor of Washington State said on Friday that he is preparing some members of the National Guard to be ready to intervene, after receiving information and concerns about the possibility of violence related to the 2024 elections.
The state is one of two that witnessed the setting of fires in ballot boxes last week. Opinion polls indicate that Democratic candidate Kamala Harris is expected to win easily over Republican Donald Trump in the state. Early voting is open to voters in Washington, and more than 2 million people have already cast ballots, according to the University of Florida Elections Lab.

“Based on public and specific information and concerns about the potential for violence or other illegal activity related to the 2024 general election, I want to make sure we are fully prepared for any situation,” Gov. Jay Inslee wrote in a letter posted on his website Friday.

Inslee said hundreds of ballots were damaged or destroyed by an incendiary device at a ballot box in Vancouver.
