EU: €20 million to increase the territorial control capabilities of the Egyptian Armed Forces in the Western Region and enhance national security

Brussels: Europe and the Arabs
The European Union Council has approved a €20 million assistance measure for the Egyptian Armed Forces (EAF) under the European Peace Facility (EPF). According to the EU institutions in Brussels, this funding aims to strengthen the territorial control capabilities of the Armed Forces, especially in the western region of Egypt, and to enhance national security, stability and the protection of civilians.
This decision, adopted last week, reflects the European Union's commitment to its partnership with Egypt, especially in light of regional security challenges.
Cooperation between the European Union and Egypt in the field of security has expanded significantly, as highlighted by the joint declaration issued in March 2024 on a comprehensive strategic partnership, which prioritizes defense cooperation.
The European Partnership Framework, established in 2021, allows the European Union to support the military and defense capabilities of partner countries, and to promote conflict prevention, peacekeeping and regional stability.
