ISESCO stresses the necessity of preserving historical cities in the Islamic world and renewing their civilizational radiance

Nouakchott: Agencies
The Director-General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), Dr. Salim bin Mohammed Al-Malik, stressed that cities are like landmarks, some of which have fallen from the memory of history, while others remain present in the conscience, such as: Mecca, Medina, Al-Quds Al-Sharif, Cairo and Chinguetti; given that these cities represent historical centers that must be preserved, protected and their civilizational radiance renewed.
A statement by ICESCO reported that the Director-General of the organization praised - in his speech during the "Heritage Cities" Festival in the presence of Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani - the organization of the 13th edition of the festival in the historic Mauritanian city of Chinguetti, which has elevated the values of its identity and preserved it throughout the ages, like cities that have been enveloped in an Islamic, Arab and African culture and absorbed it, to remain immortal in human memory. According to the Middle East News Agency, Dr. Al-Malik pointed out that this is what ISESCO is undertaking, by pumping the blood of its educational, scientific and cultural fields into the arteries of the geography of the Islamic world, which is clearly evident in the organization's program for the Capitals of Culture in the Islamic World, and the concept of ISESCO's routes and their integration with the Hajj Routes Initiative, in line with the organization's message that realizes that cities without civilizational energy remain a historical project of silent ruins. Dr. Al-Malik also praised - during his visit to the historic Chinguetti Mosque - Mauritania's efforts to preserve its tangible and intangible heritage, noting that ISESCO has registered many historical sites and Mauritanian cultural elements on its lists of heritage in the Islamic world.
