On January 6, 2021, the US Capitol witnessed an attack that was considered a direct assault on democracy, a day that many thought would remain etched in the national memory forever. However, memories of that day seem to be gradually fading inside the Capitol halls, where lawmakers rarely refer to its events. According to what was published by the Euronews website in Brussels, he added, "While some Republicans downplay the impact of what happened, others echo the accounts of President-elect Donald Trump that describe the violence as excessive. But for the police officers who defended the Capitol that day, the memories are still strong. Officer Daniel Hodges, for example, recalls painful moments, including some of the attackers trying to gouge out his eye. For him and his colleagues, the absence of the plaque they were promised seems like a new neglect that compounds their pain. In March 2022, Congress passed a law requiring the placement of a memorial plaque on the western facade of the Capitol - the site of the most violent clashes - to commemorate the officers who participated in defending the building. Despite bipartisan consensus, including the support of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and then-Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, the plaque has not yet been implemented, nearly four years later.
