Negotiations for a ceasefire and a prisoner exchange deal continue in Doha, as the Israeli war on Gaza enters its 465th day. The Hebrew newspaper "Yedioth Ahronoth" reported that a Palestinian official went to Qatar to prepare a list of prisoners who will be released.
The newspaper "Haaretz" indicated that Tel Aviv hopes that Hamas will increase the number of living Israeli prisoners in the first stage in exchange for an increase on its part of the number of "senior" Palestinian prisoners.
In the meantime, the violent Israeli bombardment continues on various areas of the Strip, as Israeli boats opened fire on the fishermen's port west of Gaza City, and a raid on a school housing displaced persons resulted in the killing of at least 5 Palestinians and wounding others west of the Gaza Governorate, according to the Palestinian News Agency.
In a related context, the Israeli army announced the downing of a drone launched from Yemen, according to what was reported by the Israeli Channel 12. According to what was reported by the Euronews news website in Brussels
In another development, the Israeli Air Force carried out a series of violent raids at night between Houmin al-Fawqa and Deir al-Zahrani north of the Litani River, claiming to target "rocket launch sites used to transfer weapons to Hezbollah."
While the Ministry of Health in Gaza announced that the number of victims of the Israeli war had risen to 46,584 dead and 109,731 wounded since October 7, 2023
For his part, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Palestine, Muhannad Hadi, called on all parties to end the war in Gaza after more than 15 months of destruction, in order to preserve the future of the children of the Strip and the region as a whole.
This came during his visit yesterday, Sunday, to the northern Gaza Strip, where Mr. Hadi - who also holds the position of Humanitarian Coordinator in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and Deputy Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process - met with a number of representatives of Palestinian civil society and visited the Church of the Holy Family in Gaza City. According to the UN daily news bulletin
In a video message from outside the Latin Church, he said: “It is self-evident that churches, mosques, civilians and all civilian infrastructure must be protected. And they can only be protected by ending this war, by a ceasefire.”
Surrounded by displaced children outside the church doors, Muhannad Hadi stressed that the displaced youth in the Strip “deserve to return to their homes.” He added: “These children you see here are the hope of the future. Without education, without proper health care, there will be no bright future.”
Mr. Hadi said: “We pray for peace. Once again, I am here appealing from this church in Gaza for an end to this war. For these children, for the future, but also for a better future for all of us in this region.”
