It is an annual tradition in the cities of the Netherlands to choose a candidate for the position of mayor of the children of the city and welcome him or her immediately after the appointment.

Ahmed Markoush expressed his happiness as he received her, considering such a step as support and backing for democracy and affirming confidence in representation and consolidating the foundations and principles of democracy thanks to education, which is considered one of the important pillars in establishing social justice and achieving equality in Dutch society.
The Deputy Chairman of the Municipal Council of the City of Arnhem, Niki Ilic, expressed his happiness at appointing the youngest mayor. "It is one of the secrets of flexible democracy and working to achieve representation, which is thus one of the democratic skills that must be worked on and consecrated in Dutch society.
Mayor Annelien van Luijt's parents took part in the inauguration of their ten-year-old daughter, standing proudly beside her, along with all the students of the Bruegel School from the seventh grade, who won the dean's medal in competition with several primary schools in the city of Arnhem.
