Brussels: Europe and the Arabs
The second session of the European Union-Japan Strategic Dialogue will be held this afternoon, Friday, April 4, in Brussels. According to a European statement, the meeting will be co-chaired by High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaia Kallas and Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya.
During the meeting, the European Union and Japan will discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations, particularly in the field of security and defense, as well as addressing ongoing challenges to the rules-based international order and foreign policy priorities, such as Russia's illegal aggression against Ukraine, developments in the Indo-Pacific region, and the evolving situation in the Middle East. The Strategic Dialogue will begin at 2:45 PM Brussels time.
The establishment of a Strategic Dialogue at the level of Foreign Ministers was agreed upon at the 2023 EU-Japan Summit. The first dialogue was held on November 1, 2024, in Japan.
During the last dialogue, the European Union and Japan announced a security and defense partnership. This agreement underscores the strategic importance of deepening cooperation in the field of security and defense in the face of growing, multifaceted security challenges.
