Brussels: Europe and the Arabs
Atom Square in Brussels witnessed a historic gathering today, Saturday, September 6, 2025, of tens of thousands of Iranians from across Europe, along with freedom supporters from European communities, in a massive demonstration under the slogan "Free Iran." This event, which marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), witnessed a strong presence of prominent international figures who delivered speeches in support of the Iranian people and their resistance against the mullahs' regime. A statement issued by the Iranian Resistance, a copy of which we received, included the following: Mike Pence: Former US Vice President (2017-2021) and a prominent figure in the Republican Party, known for his unwavering support for democracy and human rights in Iran; and Guy Verhofstadt: Former Prime Minister of Belgium (1999-2008) and one of the European political leaders who strongly advocates for a change in policy toward the Iranian regime. Chris Van Dijk, a prominent Belgian politician from Flanders and an active human rights advocate, focused on supporting the Iranian resistance and pressuring the European Union. The demonstration began at 2:00 PM Brussels time, transforming Atomic Energy Center into a global platform for expressing solidarity with the Iranian people's struggle against oppression. The number of executions in Iran has exceeded 1,600 since August 2024. In his remarks during the demonstration, Mike Pence emphasized that "the time has come for a free Iran," praising the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK) as an indomitable freedom movement despite severe persecution. He said, "You are not alone, and you are not forgotten. Your day of freedom is closer than ever, and the people of America stand with you firmly." He called for support for Mrs. Rajavi's Ten-Point Plan, describing it as "a vision that reflects the values of freedom and democracy," and praised the resistance units inside Iran as "the heart of the struggle and the engine of change." He stressed that "the regime fears its own people more than any foreign power," and America's determination to stand with the resistance until freedom is achieved. Guy Verhofstadt also spoke, criticizing the European policy of appeasement, saying, "The regime's continued crimes are evidence of the failure of the current strategy, which has harmed the Iranian people, the region, and the world due to the regime's support for groups like Hamas, the Houthis, and Hezbollah." He called for a new strategy based on "positive cooperation with the organized resistance," stressing the need to immediately designate the Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization and increase sanctions on the regime's economic sectors. He praised the Iranians' attendance as evidence of a "strong democratic alternative" and called for a meeting in Tehran next year to celebrate a free Iran. Chris Van Dijk welcomed Iran's courage in defending "freedom and equality," saying, "I stand with everyone who fights for human rights, and I support the Iranian resistance in its unity." He called for the release of the European hostages and the abolition of executions, noting that "true power lies in the will of a united people," and supported designating the Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization. He also emphasized that "free people in Europe have a duty to help the Iranian people regain their freedom."
The statement published extended excerpts from Maryam Rajavi's speech. In her impassioned speech, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi emphasized the following points:
• "The mullahs' regime is facing a crisis of survival, and the Iranian people are determined to overthrow it with unwavering strength and will. This demonstration reflects the voice of the free people."
• "The resistance units inside Iran are the vanguard leading the democratic revolution, keeping the flames of freedom burning despite all challenges."
• "Our plan for the future of Iran is based on a secular republic that respects full gender equality, abolishes the death penalty, and guarantees freedom of expression and popular sovereignty without clerical rule."
• "We call on the world to stand with us and end the policy of delay, because the Iranian people deserve a free and dignified life."
