The Israeli Ambulance Authority announced that the death toll from a shooting attack at the Ramot Junction, northeast of Jerusalem, in the central West Bank, has risen to seven, with 16 others injured, including six in critical condition.
The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported on Monday that Israeli security forces arrested a resident of East Jerusalem suspected of involvement in the armed attack. An Israeli police source said, "The investigations are complex."
The Israeli occupation authorities closed the roads leading to Jerusalem following the attack and opened an investigation to uncover the circumstances of the incident and the identities of the perpetrators.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday that Israel is engaged in an intensive war on several fronts, and that despite what he described as "successes" in confronting the attacks, "this morning was not the same."
He added, "We will arrest everyone who helped and supported the perpetrators of the attack, and we will pursue them wherever they are. We are in a war on multiple fronts, whether in Gaza, Yemen, or Lebanon, against factions backed by Iran." This came after Netanyahu arrived at the site of the shooting attack that occurred earlier today at the Ramot Junction, north of Jerusalem, in the central West Bank, after conducting a security assessment with security officials.
Netanyahu attacked the Supreme Court over a court ruling regarding the provision of basic food to Palestinian prisoners, saying, "Supreme Court, you are also in a state of war... You are part of this war." He threatened not to ease the conditions of Palestinian prisoners' detention.
For his part, Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir announced that he would "arm all Israelis" and threatened Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, saying, "We will not improve the conditions of prisons and detainees."
This came as the Palestinian presidency affirmed that security and stability in the region will not be achieved without ending the Israeli occupation, halting the acts of genocide in the Gaza Strip, and stopping settler terrorism in the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem. The presidency reiterated its firm position in rejecting and condemning any targeting of Palestinian and Israeli civilians, and in rejecting all forms of violence and terrorism regardless of their source, according to the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA).
The Palestinian presidency stressed that the Palestinian people's attainment of their legitimate rights in an independent and sovereign state with East Jerusalem as its capital, and the achievement of security and peace for all, is what will end the cycle of violence in the region.
Separately, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa discussed today in Ramallah, separately, with the Canadian representative, Graham Dalts, and the Dutch representative, Michel Rentenaar, the latest developments in Palestine, in light of the ongoing war of extermination in the Gaza Strip and the worsening humanitarian situation, in addition to the attacks by the occupation forces and their settlers and the Israeli measures in the West Bank, including Jerusalem. Mustafa praised Canada's stance in announcing its intention to recognize the State of Palestine, its participation in the international conference for a two-state solution held in New York and its endorsement of the resulting declaration, as well as its continued calls for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and condemnation of settler violence and annexation plans in the West Bank. He expressed his gratitude for Canada's humanitarian and development support for Palestine and UNRWA. The Palestinian Prime Minister discussed with the Dutch representative ways to coordinate relief and economic recovery efforts in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, as well as joint efforts to prepare for reconstruction immediately after the cessation of hostilities.
