The year 2025 is drawing to a close, with less than three months remaining, but the humanitarian appeal needed to fund life-saving efforts and meet the needs of millions of people around the world has received only 21% of its total funding. According to the UN Daily News Bulletin, which also stated, "Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the United Nations, said in his daily press briefing: "As of the end of September, only 21%—or approximately $9.6 billion—of the more than $45.3 billion needed to support life-saving efforts around the world this year had been received. This represents a staggering decrease of more than 40% compared to the same period last year.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) emphasized that these funding gaps have dire consequences for millions – leaving people without healthcare, families without food, and children without education.
For example, more than 420 health facilities have closed this year in Afghanistan, depriving 3 million people of critical care.
In Somalia, humanitarian agencies have been forced to cut food aid, meaning that only 350,000 people will receive support in November, compared to 1.1 million in August.
In Bangladesh, half a million Rohingya refugee children in Cox's Bazar have lost out on education.
Farhan Haq emphasized that the United Nations and its partners are doing their utmost to reach as many of the most vulnerable people as possible, given limited funding.
He noted that OCHA launched a high-priority global appeal in June to meet the most urgent needs of 114 million people. Person.
OCHA called on donors to increase their investments in humanitarian aid. It stressed the critical importance of providing more support to save lives at a time of dire needs around the world.
