A statement issued by NATO Headquarters in Brussels said that experts from the Alliance met in Oslo, Norway, for the annual NATO Hybrid Symposium to discuss the evolving hybrid threat landscape and strengthen cooperation in countering it. The two-day event, held last week, focused on national approaches to protecting critical infrastructure and lessons learned from recent malicious hybrid activities. Allies also worked together to further enhance the implementation of NATO’s revised strategy to counter hybrid threats.
According to the NATO statement, in his opening remarks, Jan-Charles Ellermann-Kingombe, NATO Assistant Secretary General for Cyber and Digital Transformation and Special Coordinator for Countering Hybrid Threats, emphasized the dynamic nature of the threat landscape and the need for rapid and timely responses at both the national and NATO levels to protect our societies and critical infrastructure.
Participants also discussed strengthening cooperation with the private sector to protect critical infrastructure. Representatives from the European Union participated to share experiences in public-private partnerships to counter hybrid actions. This event was organized jointly by NATO's Cyber and Digital Transformation Section and the Norwegian Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Defence, Justice, and Public Security. It forms part of NATO's broader efforts to enhance preparedness and deterrence against hybrid threats.
