Brussels – Tehran: Europe and the Arabs

European media outlets in Brussels focused on developments regarding the ceasefire between the United States and Iran. Under the headline "War Drums Beat in the Gulf: Revolutionary Guard Threatens Ships and Israel Prepares for the Collapse of the Ceasefire in Iran," the Brussels-based European news network Euronews reported that Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated that his country had fought an "unequal battle" with the United States, but that its "steadfastness" had forced Trump to request a ceasefire.

The Wall Street Journal quoted White House officials as expecting a breakthrough in negotiations with Iran in the coming days, noting the prospect of holding further rounds of talks in Pakistan. According to the same sources, US President Donald Trump believed that achieving a "victory" over Tehran could pave the way for him to establish the foundations of a new world order.

Meanwhile, Israeli media, citing military and political sources, reported that the Israeli army was on high alert in anticipation of the collapse of the ceasefire with Tehran. On the ground, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard escalated its rhetoric, warning ships in the Gulf and the Sea of Oman against leaving their positions or approaching the Strait of Hormuz, asserting that any violation would be considered "collaboration with the enemy" and would be met with targeting.

Politically, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated that his country had waged an "unequal battle" with the United States, but that its "steadfastness" had forced Trump to request a ceasefire, adding: "We did not destroy the enemy, but we triumphed over it on the battlefield."

On the Lebanese front, the Israeli army announced the death of another soldier and the wounding of nine others, one critically, in an explosion in southern Lebanon, bringing its death toll to 15 since the start of the war last February.

In a separate development, Hezbollah denied any involvement in the attack targeting the UNIFIL peacekeeping force in the Ghandouriyeh area of Bint Jbeil district, which resulted in the death of a French soldier and injuries to others, calling for restraint in assigning blame. For its part, the Lebanese army condemned the shooting incident, while President Joseph Aoun offered his condolences to the French president and ordered an urgent investigation to uncover the circumstances of the incident.
