Ukraine again targets a strategic bridge in the occupied city of Kherson

Ukrainian forces bombed again from Sunday night to Monday an important bridge in Kherson, the city occupied by Russian forces in the south of the country, according to the authorities in Kyiv. "What a night for the occupiers in the Kherson region. Strikes targeted the area of the Antonovsky bridge," local deputy Sergey Khelan said on Facebook. A spokeswoman for the Southern Command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Natalia Gomynyuk, confirmed the strikes. "The strikes that we carried out over several days have achieved results. The impact is huge on the Antonovsky and Kakhovsky bridges," she told Ukrainian television. The Antonovsky Bridge on the outskirts of Kherson is strategic and a major supply corridor because it is the only bridge connecting the city to the south bank of the Dnieper River and the rest of the Kherson region. It was already targeted and partially destroyed on 27 July, forcing the Russian army to reorganize its supply route. In particular, he had to install moveable bridges. Kherson, the capital of the region that bears its name, lies only a few kilometers from the front where Ukrainian forces launch a counter-attack to reclaim these lands lost in the early days of the Russian invasion. The region is considered key to Ukrainian agriculture, and strategic because it lies on the border of Crimea, which Moscow annexed in 2014. By occupying it, Russia was able to establish a land bridge to connect Crimea with Russian territory and other Ukrainian regions it occupies. The occupation authorities are planning to hold a referendum on the annexation of Kherson and the neighboring Zaporizhia region.
