China's Cosco Shipping Company in the eastern city of Qidong has completed the construction of the N999 Tortue FPSO floating storage and offloading vessel for natural gas processing.
The ship is the largest of its kind in the world, as it resembles a floating gas processing plant.
The vessel combines oil and gas production, processing, storage and offloading with export and mooring sites.
The ship will sail towards the coasts of Mauritania and Senegal in West Africa to develop liquefied natural gas.
The length of the "N999 Tortio FPS" ship is 270 meters, 54 meters wide, 31.5 meters deep, the size of two football fields, and a height of 10 floors, according to the Chinese newspaper, "The People".
The ship is designed for a service life of up to 30 years, a maximum tonnage of 320,000 tons, and a storage capacity of 1.44 million barrels. The ship also contains a living area that can accommodate approximately 140 people.
Once in use, the vessel will have a daily gas processing capacity of 500 million standard cubic feet.
