Belgium: an increase of 75% in the purchase of electric cars and 11% in those that run on gas... and a sharp decline in the bankruptcy rate of companies

On August 1, 2022, the number of cars registered in Belgium was 5,947,479 passenger cars, compared to 5,927,912 in the previous year. This represents an increase of 0.3%.
Even more, the number of passenger cars has increased by 0.8% over the past ten years. This is evident from the new figures from the Belgian Statistics Office.
Hybrid cars currently represent 6.3% of the total passenger car fleet and have significantly crossed the 350,000 mark and there were: 375,107 hybrids compared to only 258,916 in 2021 (+45%).
A hybrid car combines two engines under the hood. On the one hand, you have a combustion engine, for example with gasoline. On the other hand, there is an electric motor with a battery attached to it. The battery is charged while driving via a combustion engine.
The number of fully electric passenger cars increased by 75% and reached (71,651) and the number of gas-powered cars increased by 11% (17,740).

August 2022: 325 bankruptcies

In August 2022, corporate courts registered 325 bankruptcies. This is a 38.4% decrease compared to July 2022.

Belgium's Statbel Office also publishes a comprehensive report that includes key developments in the monthly bankruptcy numbers.

The number of bankruptcies registered in August 2022 is higher compared to the same month in 2021 (+19.9%) but lower than the number of bankruptcies in August 2020 (-16.7%) and August 2019 (-29.2%).

For each region, the number of bankruptcies registered in August 2022 is lower compared to July 2022 and August 2019, except for the Brussels-Capital Region where the number of bankruptcies registered in August 2022 was equal to the number of bankruptcies registered in July 2022 (70). The largest relative decreases compared to July 2022 occurred in the Flemish region (-45.9%) and compared to August 2019 in the Brussels-Capital Region (-56.0%).

The number of bankruptcies registered in August 2022 decreased compared to July 2022 in all sectors, with the only exception of Information and Communications (+2). Compared to August 2019, only the number of bankruptcies in agriculture and fisheries decreased, remaining the same as in one bankruptcy.
