The European Union: We look forward to working with the new Brazilian President and we have a long-term strategic partnership

Brussels: Europe and the Arabs
The Office of the Coordinator for European Foreign Policy in Brussels issued a statement on the results of the presidential elections in Brazil, which said, "Brazilian citizens went to the polls on October 30 to elect their new president in a peaceful and well-organized election.

After the official announcement of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal, the European Union congratulates Luis Inacio Lula da Silva as elected president and Geraldo José Rodriguez Alcín Filho as vice-president-elect on this victory.

The European Union commends the Electoral Court in particular for the efficient and transparent manner in which it conducted its constitutional mandate throughout the electoral process, which once again demonstrates the strength and democracy of Brazilian institutions.

The European Union and Brazil have a long-term strategic partnership, based on shared values and respect for democracy, human rights and the rule of law.

We are committed to deepening and expanding our relationship with Brazil in all areas of mutual interest, including trade, environment, climate change and the digital agenda for the benefit of our citizens.

We will also strengthen our work together in favor of inclusive, equitable and sustainable development.

I look forward to working with President Lula and his government, as well as with the new Congress and state authorities.
