Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said that North Korea launched today, Friday, intercontinental ballistic missiles, which are likely to have landed within Japan's exclusive economic zone in the Sea of Japan.
Kishida condemned the North Korean missile launch, describing this action as "totally unacceptable" .. According to the news agency "Kyodo" Japan.
For his part, Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno said that the "intercontinental ballistic missile" class missile flew about 1,000 km in a high trajectory and reached a height of 6,000 km, adding that the government did not issue an order to destroy it.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the missile was launched east near the west coast of the Korean Peninsula, and the launch followed a short-range ballistic missile launch from the east coast on Thursday.
Kishida told reporters that North Korea is repeating provocations at an unprecedented pace and is completely unacceptable, adding that there were no reports of damage to aircraft or ships.
He added that Japan strongly protested to North Korea about the launch, and the prime minister said, "The missile most likely fell in waters west of Japan's northernmost main island of Hokkaido."
On Thursday, North Korea launched a short-range ballistic missile into the Sea of Japan from Wonsan County, Gangwon Province.
For its part, a spokeswoman for the US Department of Defense confirmed that North Korea's launch of missiles destabilizes the region, after Pyongyang resumed firing ballistic missiles.
"The firing of these ballistic missiles continues to destabilize, and if they continue to do so, it will further destabilize the region," Defense Ministry Deputy Spokesperson Sabrina Singh told a news briefing. "Our commitment remains strong to South Korea and Japan," she added.
"We will always stand up for our allies and partners around the world, especially in the region, and we have called on North Korea to stop launching ballistic missiles," Singh said.
North Korea fired a short-range ballistic missile into the East Sea earlier on Thursday. The US State Department condemned North Korea's recent missile test, describing it as a threat to the region and the international community.
Pyongyang has conducted a record number of missile tests this year, launching more than 50 short-range and long-range missiles since Sept. 25.
