Brussels: Europe and the Arabs
The Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Adel Al-Jubeir, will hold talks at the headquarters of the executive body of the European Union tomorrow, Monday. On the climate recently hosted by Sharm El-Sheikh, he said on the sidelines of the summit that Saudi Arabia has developed more than 70 climate initiatives, and is one of the largest investors in clean energy sources. Al-Jubeir added that the Kingdom will announce more achievements regarding climate in the coming months. The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs also said The Saudi Green Initiative is very ambitious and rare.
Meanwhile, Frans Timmermans, head of climate policy in the European Union, said that the climate agreement that was approved at the COP27 summit in Egypt is not a sufficient step forward, criticizing the commitment of some countries to efforts to limit global warming. "This decade is a decade of success or failure, but what we have here is not enough as a step forward for the people or the planet," he added at the end of the summit.
"This does not entail sufficient additional effort on the part of the largest emitters to increase and accelerate the pace of their reduction of those emissions," he added.
