French President Emmanuel Macron warned, at the outset of a state visit to the United States, of a "danger" that Europe in general and France in particular would fall victim to the current trade competition between Washington and Beijing.

In a speech delivered at the French Embassy in Washington to the French community, Macron said: "The danger lies in the fact that the United States, in the face of the challenges of the times, first looks at the United States, which is normal, and then looks at the competition with China, and in a way, Europe and France become It's like a variable."

It is worth noting that France has always stressed that it does not consider itself a "biased" ally with regard to China, at a time when the United States has made strategic competition with Beijing its main strategic focus.
