Brussels: Europe and the Arabs
The European Commission in Brussels said that, for 50 years, Denmark has been a dear member of the European family.
This came in a tweet on Twitter by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on the occasion of the half-century anniversary of Denmark's accession to the single European bloc, adding, "More than ever, we need your strong voice and leadership on our green transition and energy independence." She concluded by saying, "Thank you for making Europe more powerful
Last June, the European Union welcomed the results of the referendum conducted by Denmark on the country's accession to the European Union's defense policy, describing it as "historic".
Denmark, a member state of the European Union since 1973, recorded the first question of European unity by rejecting in 1992 the Maastricht Treaty, the agreement establishing the European Union, with a majority of 50.7% of the vote, which had not happened previously. In order to remove this obstacle that threatened the entry into force of the founding treaty in all European Union countries, Copenhagen obtained a series of exceptions called (rejection options), and the country returned to agree to the treaty in another referendum organized the following year.
Since then, Denmark has remained outside the eurozone, which it rejected in a referendum that took place in 2000, but also outside the European policy on internal affairs and justice after it rejected it in a referendum in 2015, as well as defense.
