Today, Friday, the Criminal Court of the Belgian city of Werweba sentenced a man in his seventies to nine years in prison. He was charged with sexual offenses against an 11-year-old girl.
The accused was not only prosecuted for violating the sexual integrity of the girl, but also for raping the victim. The facts came out on July 4, 2022 when the police were called to intervene in a fight between two men at a stud farm. The victim's father, who had just learned what the man had done to his daughter, wanted to confront his neighbor - the owner of the farm - alone. According to the Belgian news agency
The owner of the farm was a neighbor of the victim only two years before the incident, and the child was passionate about horses. And one day the girl told her grandmother that their old neighbor kissed her and touched her breasts. Then she came back and told her that he raped her.
The accused, who admitted that he kissed the girl and touched her breasts, vehemently denied raping her. Therefore, his lawyer asked for an acquittal, but the court did not agree. He was sentenced to nine years in prison. He must also pay the victim a (provisional) compensation of €9,000.
