The Belgian police succeeded today, Thursday, in thwarting an armed attack and arrested two people in the Willerik neighborhood of the city of Antwerp, in the north of the country.
"We immediately went to the scene and arrested the man," said police spokesman Willem Megum. And in the immediate vicinity, we also found a firearm that the man had thrown under a car. And a stone's throw from where we arrested the first suspect, we were able to arrest another suspect. At the time, he was in a car with a Dutch license plate. It concerns two Dutch youths, aged 20 and 25.” The demining service DOVO and explosives-searching dogs arrived at the scene to search the area for possible explosives.
It is not clear if it can be linked to two previous attacks. The Federal Judicial Police (FGP) will lead the investigation. Mayor Bart de Wever (N-VA) pointed to two thwarted attacks last week in the city, one in the south on Museumstraat and the other on Boomsesteenweg. In total, six Dutch suspects have been arrested.
And from the Netherlands, Noureddine Al-Omrani wrote: The media in Amsterdam reported that two Dutchmen were arrested today in the city of Antwerp, close to the border between the two countries, and they were probably planning to attack a house. He sits in it and waits for the first person. No explosives were found inside the car, and the motives are unknown yet
