The Swedish intelligence announced, on Tuesday, the arrest of five people on suspicion of preparing a "terrorist attack" in Sweden, in response to the burning of the Koran by Swedish-Danish extremist Rasmus Paludan in front of the Turkish embassy in Stockholm in January.
According to the Al-Hurra website, the deputy head of the counter-terrorism unit in the Internal Security Agency, Susanna Trehorning, said in a statement, "The current case is one of several cases that the Swedish Security Service was working on (...) in relation to the burning of the Qur'an."
Rasmon Paludan, leader of the Danish far-right Hard Line party, known for years for its anti-Islam positions, burned a copy of the Koran in front of the Turkish embassy in Stockholm, in protest against Turkey's stance against Sweden's accession to NATO.
The Swedish police did not intervene to prevent him from burning the Qur’an, because they considered that the constitutionally guaranteed freedom of demonstration and expression in Sweden allow him to do what he did.
