Achievement for the benefit of the earth and man
The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace—celebrated annually on 6 April—provides an opportunity to recognize the positive role that sport and physical activity play in societies and the lives of people around the world.
Sport has the power to change the world. It is an inherent right and a powerful tool to strengthen social bonds and promote sustainable development, peace, solidarity and respect.
The theme of the 2023 celebration focuses on ❞achievement for the benefit of the earth and man❝. As in previous years' festivities, the general theme for this day is to promote activities that focus on the impact of sport and its impact on efforts in the field of sustainable development and peace.
From empowering women, girls, youth, people with disabilities and other marginalized groups to advancing the goals of health, sustainability and education, sport offers huge potential to advance the SDGs and promote peace and human rights. The United Nations has long recognized the power and universality of sport, and the importance of using it to unite individuals and groups by supporting sport for development efforts, participating in events from global to grassroots level, and developing sport-related campaigns and initiatives.
