What appeared to be gunpowder was found in the home of a suspect who threw an explosive device at Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida during an election rally, local media reported Monday.
Kishida was unhurt in the incident that occurred on Saturday, when he was targeted by an explosive device at a fishing port in Wakayama (west), where he was preparing to deliver a speech in support of a candidate from his party.
Police spent more than eight hours Sunday searching the home of the 24-year-old suspect, identified as Ryuji Kimura, according to media, and residents of the neighborhood were temporarily evacuated in case there were more explosives.
