The European-Egyptian joint presidency of the Global Counter-Terrorism Forum began Thursday, which aims to strengthen international efforts in the long-term strategic approach to combating terrorism and violent extremism.
The representative of the European Union at the Global Counter-Terrorism Forum said that the threat of terrorism is increasing in Africa, which requires cooperation and the involvement of stakeholders, including civil society, to combat it.
This came during his speech today, after Egypt officially assumed the co-chairmanship of the Global Counter-Terrorism Forum with the European Union from the State of Morocco for a period of two years.

A joint press conference was held yesterday between Egypt and the European Union to introduce the Global Counter-Terrorism Forum, in the presence of Ambassador Mohamed Fouad, Director of the International Counter-Terrorism Unit at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Nadia Costantini, Director of the Counter-Terrorism Department at the Foreign Service of the European Union Commission.

Ambassador Mohamed Fouad, Director of the International Counter-Terrorism Unit at the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that this forum is an informal, non-political and multilateral counter-terrorism platform aimed at strengthening international efforts in the long-term strategic approach to combating terrorism and violent extremism.
He pointed out that the forum is working with partners around the world to identify vital civilian needs in the field of combating terrorism and mobilizing the necessary expertise and resources to support capacity-building and strengthening global cooperation to combat terrorism through frank and open discussions.
He pointed out that the forum's meetings and activities lead to the development of good practices and non-binding tools for policy-makers and practitioners to enhance civilian capabilities, national strategies, action plans and training units in the field of combating terrorism.
