In a statement issued yesterday, Monday, Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, said, “Staff Sergeant Rismayanti’s innovation and efforts to utilize data within UN peacekeeping operations and the Central African Republic police have contributed significantly to enhancing the security of vulnerable communities, including women.” And girls.”
He said that the Indonesian policewoman is “a great example of how women’s participation and leadership in peacekeeping operations improves the effectiveness of our work in the field of protection and peacebuilding to better meet the challenges of today and tomorrow.”
For her part, Officer Rismayanti said she feels lucky to be able to use her technological skills to improve security for people across the Central African Republic. She added: “I hope that the visibility that comes from winning this award will reinforce among women and girls that all areas of expertise in policing are open to us.”
It is noteworthy that the United Nations Female Police Officer of the Year Award was established in 2011 to recognize the exceptional contributions of female police officers to United Nations peace operations and to promote women’s empowerment.
There are approximately 10,000 UN police personnel serving in 16 UN peace operations, where they work to promote international peace and security by supporting host countries in conflict, post-conflict and other crisis situations. Women's participation in UN police has doubled since 2015.
