Yesterday, Monday, January 8, Ms. Sikhrid Kach began her assignment as Senior Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator in Gaza under Security Council Resolution 2720 of 2023.
Florencia Soto of the UN Spokesperson's Office said that Kach will facilitate, coordinate, monitor and verify humanitarian relief shipments to Gaza. According to what was stated in the daily news bulletin issued by the United Nations
She added that Kach also received a mandate to establish a United Nations mechanism to accelerate the sending of humanitarian relief shipments to Gaza through countries that are not party to the conflict.
Sotto said that the UN official met yesterday, Monday, with the Secretary-General of the United Nations in New York, and then she will head to Washington, DC, this week to hold meetings before traveling to the region.
Soto added that the chief coordinator of humanitarian affairs and reconstruction in Gaza will begin her work duties in the region in the Jordanian capital, Amman, then Egypt, with the aim of later moving to her headquarters in Gaza.
