925 corporate bankruptcies were announced in Belgium last month

In April 2024, the company courts registered 925 bankruptcies. This represents a decrease of 9.7% compared to March 2024 (1,024).
The Belgian statistics office, Statbel, published an extensive report containing the most important developments in the monthly bankruptcy figures, which stated:
The number of bankruptcies registered in April 2024 is higher compared to the same month in 2023 (+13.2%) and in 2022 (+49.2%). This is the highest value for April in Belgium since 2019 (934).
Regionally, the number of bankruptcies increased only in the Brussels-Capital Region (+6.7%) compared to March 2024. This number also increased in each region compared to both April 2023 and April 2022. This, by the way, is the highest April value in the Walloon Region since The previous record was in 2019 (267 vs. 263), while one has to go back to April 2013 to find more bankruptcies in the Flemish region for the month (511 vs. 498) and up to April 2019 in relation to the Brussels-Capital Region (250 vs. 160).
Since the beginning of this year, company courts have declared 2,224 bankruptcies in the Flemish region. This number is 12.3% higher than the previous record set in 2013 (1,980).
